Shwmae. Meredith dw i.
Hi. I’m Meredith.
I’m a writer and PhD student from Michigan. I grew up on Star Wars and Lord of the Rings, Lloyd Alexander’s Chronicles of Prydain and Nancy Bond’s A String in the Harp. Without realizing it, they taught me the importance of stories, in all shapes and forms. Stories aren’t always about blowing up the Death Star or tossing an evil ring into Mount Doom. Sometimes, they’re smaller, more immediate. But no matter the size, the stories we tell ourselves matter—deeply.
As a young queer person, I needed a different story than the one my church gave me: that there was something wrong inside me, that I needed to be fixed or cured. As a twenty-something, I replaced that story with a new one: Happiness comes through endless hard work, a constant pursuit of success, and unflinching sacrifice. That story wasn’t very good, either.
I’m here today because I found another story to tell—one that belongs to me, and one that I’m writing every day, both literally and figuratively. I share bits of it here on my blog, and other bits (fiction, mostly) on my Patreon.
I’m grateful to have turned the page.
If you like my writing, please consider supporting my work through the Patreon my husband and I run, which also includes his illustration work and some collaborative pieces.
Take good care, and diolch yn fawr for stopping by.
Meredith ap Robert
